NAFEST 2018: Ogun State Dazzles Spectators …With Tuber Crop Delicacies

One of the amazing events that thrilled spectators who attended the just concluded National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) 2018 held in Portharcourt, the Rivers State capital was the showcasing of Nigeria’s tuber crops delicacies by the Ogun State contingent during the traditional cuisines competition of NAFEST held at the Jim Rex Lawson Cultural Centre, Portharcourt.
In an interview, with The Tide at the event, the leader of the Ogun State troupe, Mrs. Olaronke Taiwo disclosed that Ogun State had some of the best tuber crop meals in NAFEST 2018, such as Eba and Egusi soup, Amala and Ewedu soup as well as some delicacies like Ebiribo prepared with cocoyam, Ikokore prepared with water yam, Asaro prepared with Yam as well as fried yam and potatoes. These delicious meals were appreciated, patronized and relished by both participants and spectators.
She noted that the traditional cuisine competition was aimed at celebrating the glory and diversity of local meals made from tuber crops. She explained that the event was strategically directed at revealing the full glory of our local meals made from tuber crops such as yam, cocoyam, water yam, potato and cassava. She further stated that the organizers of NAFEST 2018 wanted the general public in attendance to be fully acquianted with the health benefits of meals made from tuber crops.
Mrs. Taiwo lauded the Rivers State Government for the peaceful conduct of the event and the good security network on ground in the State.
She said, “ since our arrival here on Sunday, we have been properly hosted and properly attended to by Rivers State, we are yet to experience any bad or ugly incident and we pray it stays so at NAFEST 2018. The security has also been top-notch and has been tight and effective since our arrival”.
