The Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Inter Party Affairs, Hon. Opakirite Mackson Jackreece has said that the choice of Mrs Ipalibo Harry-Banigo for the second time as the running mate of Chief Nyesom Wike for the 2019 governorship election is a clear indication of the governor’s gender-friendly disposition.
Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, Hon. Jackreece said, also, the emergence of Hon. Betty Okagua-Apiafi as the Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Rivers West Senatorial District in the next year’s elections further confirms that Governor Wike remains resolute in his desire to promote the interest of the female folk to political limelight.
“The Power of Sport (POS) and gender friendly Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike first demonstrated his love to see the female folk excel in polities when he persuaded all the local government chairmanship candidates of the PDP in the last local government elections to choose women as their running mate.
“Today in Rivers State we have twenty three female Vice Chairmen and over 100 female councillors who were elected into all the local government councils. This is outside female appointments he has made into the state executive council and other strategic areas of governance in the state”, he emphasized.
“This singular magnanimity of Governor Wike to women of Rivers State has attracted tremendous support to his second term bid and without any iota of doubt, he will sweep the polls in the governorship elections next year. The issue of Governor Wike’s return to the Brick House in 2019 is not in any form of doubt”, he declared.
The Special Adviser expressed confidence that with the imbiased stance of Governor Wike, Hon. Okagua-Apiafi’s emergence as the first female Senator in Rivers State at the general elections next year is assured.
