HYPREP Set To Provide Potable Water In Ogoni Communities

The Hydrocarbon Pollu-tion Remediation Project (HYPREP) says it is on the verge of deploying its team of water experts to Ogoni communities with a view to finding a permanent solution to the water crisis in the area.
The Poject Coordinator, Mr. Marvin Dekil, who said this on the sidelines of the just concluded Ogoni 2018 Martyres’ Day celebration in Port Harcourt, said that, the experts will collect samples from both private and public wells.
According to him, the move is to aid Hyprep in providing a comprehensive and permanent water scheme for the communities.
The Project Coordinator also said that the commendation was unique as it heralds the movement of equipment and personnel to sites for the clean-up of Ogoniland impacted by crude oil spills.
“All of the these three arms of Hyprep are working tirelessly to put smiles back on the faces of the good people of Ogoni through the provision of potable water, conduct of health impact study and carry out an environmental remediation that meets international standards.
“We are at the final stage of the procurement of competent companies including Ogoni indigenous contractors for the remediation process” he said.
Mr. Dekil also used the occasion to commend president Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment to the cleanup project.
“The commitment of President Buhari to this all important project is absolute and he has responded to the demands of the Ogoni people for a safe and clean environment.
It is his earnest desire that you create a conducive and peaceful environment for the remediation work and other components of the project to be delivered.
According to him, there is need for a united and indivisible Ogoni that places premium on the collective good of its people, adding that it is the only way to benefit maximally from the deliverables of the project.
The coordinator said that the doors of Hyprep are opened to any constructive criticism and engagements but added that the mandate of Hyprep is not tailored towards addressing all of the demands of the Ogoni people at once.
