RSG Set To Revive Eleme Turbine
Soon, the abandoned Eleme Gas Turbine will be revived courtesy of the Rivers State Government.
Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Power, Mr. Alawari Ndu dropped the hint during a one-day Power Summit organised by the State House of Assembly last Friday in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Ndu stated that before now, the turbine complex had been under contention, as the Managers, Rockson Nigeria Limited had claimed they were being owed by the State Government.
He however said that the State Government has finally taken over the complex, as plans to revive the facility had commenced.
Responding to why there is power outage in the state Secretariat Complex, the Permanent Secretary stated that there had been some bottlenecks in rectifying some electrical faults especially on Point Block.
He explained that the problem of power provision in the State Secretariat Complex was not to be blamed on Power Holding Electricity Development Company (PHED), but rather on technical challenges which are being currently addressed by government.
Ndu further disclosed that the licence owned by the State Government has not been operating due to policy somersaults from the Federal Government.
In his words, “the State Government conceded its nominal shares to a private hands, unless the Gederal Government begins to streamline things properly, the power sector will not grow”.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Power, Hon. Abinye Pepple has promised that the legislature will make laws that will reinvigorate the power sector.
He hinted that soon, the House will commence oversight on power assets in the state starting from the Eleme Gas Turbine.
