Residents of Rivers State have expressed satisfaction with the level of improvement on the security infrastructure of the state under the administration of Governor Nyesom Wike in the past three years.
Reacting to insinuations by the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) state chairman, Hon, Ojukaye Flagg-Amachree that the present administration in the state has been encouraging insecurity through cultism, a resident and a lawyer, Helen Ben Efosa maintained that the improvement in security in the local communities across the state was achieved despite deliberate attempts by APC leadership in the state to sabotage the security architecture.
She said: ” when the governor assumed office in 2015, the security situation was horrible that the APC embarked on ungodly propaganda, carpeting the state as ” Rivers of blood”.
According to her, ” the same APC leadership in the state wrote to the Presidency to prevail on the issue and declare in the State a “state of emergency’” and stressed that it was difficult for President Muhammadu Buhari who was under pressure to do so.
As she put it ” through sound investment and policies the security of the state has improved holistically. “The government is funding the agencies responsible for the security of lives and people’s property in collaboration of key stakeholders to stem the tide of insecurity and sustain peace”.
Another resident and lecturer at the Rivers State University, Prof Valentine Omubo- Pepple stressed that ,” I am delighted that the government was able to exit that ugly state of insecurity within the past years of this administration, of a truth we are making progress”.
Pepple disclosed that the government under the watch of Governor NyesomWike had offered the people protection and security and noted that the governor and his team had been able to contend with insecurity to a standstill.
The don, however said that the state government would continue to build the security framework of the oil rich state to ensure it witnesses sustained development.
Prof Pepple, dean of faculty of sciences of the university noted that the overwhelming infrastructural development in the state had been made possible because of the prevailing security in the state.
He added that without security it would be difficult for contractors to work in various communities without molestation, kidnapping and killing.
