Parents, Encourage Your Children To Play Scrabble -Player
World number two scrabble player Moses Peter last Monday in Abuja urged Nigerian parents to encourage their children to play the scrabble game in order to improve.
Peter told newsmen that children taking to scrabble would be of better personality and would have broad views.
He said scrabble is an intellectual game which helps to improve the horizon of a child and his or her thinking faculty.
“Scrabble makes a child stand out in class. It is a game that will make a child love to read, know how to solve his or her arithmetic effectively.
“English will also not be a problem to them as they grow up. So, I will advise that parents should encourage their children to play the game of scrabble.
“For the very young ones, if they start playing scrabble, say from nursery school, the sky will be their limits because facing the challenge of life will not be a problem to them.
“For the youths, scrabble takes them away from social vices and things that will bring problems to them. And it can also earn them lots of money as a professional,’’ the world number two said.
Peter, who is also the Akwa Ibom state scrabble coach, said the state was investing heavily on youths to make them better scrabble players in the nearest future.
“In the next few years, scrabble will be associated with Akwa Ibom with the level of investment in youth scrabble in the state by the government,’’ he said.
Peter, however, thanked God for his feat of winning the 2018 Asaph Zadok National Scrabble Championship adding that God’s Grace and his belief on himself won him the championship.
“I thank Almighty God for giving me the enablement to achieve this feat. It is the second time I have won the National Championship and I now happen to be the first Nigerian to win it twice,’’ the national scrabble champion said.
It would be recalled that Peter won the title in 2012 and 2018, but he was second in 2015.
