INEC Okays Four Political Parties For PHALGA III Bye-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says four political parties have been cleared to participate in the August 17th bye election for Port Harcourt Constituency III in Rivers State.
Commissioner in charge of voters’ Education and Publicity of INEC, Edwin Enaboh, who disclosed this in a press statement said the date for the bye-election remained unchanged.
According to the statement, the four political parties cleared to participate in the bye-election are: All Progressives Congress (APC), Democratic Alternative (DA), Massive Movement of Nigeria (MMN), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The statement also listed the candidates for the election as Worlu Dickson (APC) Gibson Tonye (DA), Chinaka Mmerukini (PDP) and Eyiba Tigida (MMN).
The ongoing voters registration exercise according to the statement will be suspended in PHALGA because of the bye-election.
It added that INEC was ready to conduct the polls and called on the participating political parties to play the game by the rules.
Meanwhile, the Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Rivers State, Oliver Wolugbom has called on political parties and the electorate to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner during the bye-election to achieve a hitch free poll.
The NOA Director, in a press statement urged the political actors in the election not to see the election as a do-or-die affair.
