Grassroots Football Coach Seeks Govt’s Support
The head coach of Diamond Football Club of Port Harcourt, Nana Ben Peters has appealed to the Rivers State governor, well-meaning individuals, corporate bodies and companies to sponsor grassroots football in the state.
He said his aim to form a grassroots football club to discover and expose grassroots players to limelight adding that there are lots of potentials at the grassroots begging for exposure.
Coach Nana stated this last Monday in an exclusive interview with Tidesports after a training session at Community Secondary School Nkpolu Oroworukwo, Mile Three Diobu, Port Harcourt.
The head coach of Diamond FC who is also the coach of Eleme United in the Nigeria Professional League One Side explained that he has been in coaching for the past 29 years adding that his football club has produced a lot of talented footballers within and outside the state.
“When you are grooming a team there is no need for segregation.You must put every thing together to make your team successful”, he noted.
According to him, if given the needed support, he is ready to do more in the game, adding that since the death of his sponsor, Chief Okedi Lawah, no other person has been able to assist him in grooming the youth in his club to limelight.
He noted that there are a lot of football programmes coming up at the grassroots, to keep the youth useful in the society and to engage them but there is no sponsor adding that he has written to many corporate bodies, churches, well-meaning individuals and government officials but no response from them.
