…As Police Assure Violence-Free Bye-Election

Ahead of the bye-election scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hold in Port Harcourt Constituency III on August 18, 2018, the Rivers State Police Command has assured that it would give adequate protection, before, during and after the election.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed who gave the assurance in Port Harcourt recently, called on political parties and other stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully and not to see the election as a do or die affair.
He particularly urged political parties participating in the elections to advise their members to be responsible during the elections.
Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, Stephen Asor, Ahmed said the police was poised to work with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property during the elections.
He urged stakeholders to see the bye- election as a test- run of the 2019 general elections in the state.
Similarly, the Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Rivers State, Oliver Wolugbom has called on political parties participating in the August 18, 2018 bye- election in PHALGA Constituency III to play by the rules by ensuring a free and credible election in the state.
Wolugbom who spoke with newsmen in an interview, also called on the security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property during the bye- election.
