Taxi Driver Docked Over Breach Of Trust

A 35-year-old man,  Suleiman Abubakar, who alleged bought a car on hire purchase but reneged on repayment schedule, was yesterday brought before a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court,  Abuja.
The accused, who is a taxi driver in Abuja, is facing a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
Abubakar, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
But Police Prosecutor Adeyemi Oyeyemi insisted that the Abubakar committed the offences sometime in April 2013.
Oyeyemi said the complainant, Mr Amos Williams of Army Headquarters, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, bought a Golf 3 saloon car in 2013 and gave it to Abubakar on hire purchase.
The accused bought the car on hire purchase at a cost of N200,000, but he failed to remit money to the complainant after receiving the car, he told the court.
The offences contravened Sections  312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
Ruling on the bail application of the accused, Magistrate Jim Zimizu admitted him to a bail of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Further hearing has been adjourned until May 17.
