Speaker Preaches Peace, Love
Proceedings in the Rivers State House of Assembly continued last week with debate over the state House of Assembly bill 2018. The bill seeks to amend procedures in a appointing the clerk of the house among others.
Members of the House had debated on the bill before it passed second reading last week.
Member representing Obio/Akpor II, Hon Michael Okechukwu Chinda had submitted during debate last Tuesday that there should be a succession process, such that any person so appointed to occupy the office of the clerk will be shawled on the House procedures.
Hon. Chinda maintained that possible successors should be trained at least for six months in order to be knowledgeable in the methods and process of the House.
Chinda’s view was towed by Christian Ahiakwo of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni 1.
The lawmakers from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni called for a re-engineering plan to attend appointees get aligned in the house proceedings. He stressed that there should be a gradual process.
Lawmaker representing Emohua, Sam Ogeh reasoned that the bill seeks to eliminate the discriminatory process of appointing House clerks. He said the old procedure should be jettisoned in order to make it open for those qualified.
Victoria Nyeche of Port Harcourt constituency 1, urged for caution, and submitted that the position of clerk should be made a career appointment.
The speaker on Easter Sunday attended church service at St Jame’s Anglican Church, Ataba Parish in Andoni Archdeaconry.
Rt. Hon Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani who was accompanied by his wife, Lady Rose Ibani preached peace and love. He said the church has a serious role to play in promoting health.
He urged the people to be alert of tuberculosis which he said is not a killer disease, but is curable and can be treated in government hospitals.
Rt Hon Ibani called on the church to play the role of enlightening the public on health matters, especially on tuberculosis and other transmittable diseases.
Last Friday, the speaker played host Iku to Et Uga foundation on an empowerment programme. He promised to ensure that scheme covers every beneficiary in the area.
He therefore urged members of the group to be patient, as he poised at ensuring that all his electoral promise to the people are fulfilled.
The speaker further promised that plans are in progress to provide other empowerment schemes to cover the constituents, but that the programme will be done in phases.
