Oil Firm Tasks Women On Economic Dev

The women from the South-South geo-political zone of the country have been enjoined to strive to harness economic opportunities by confronting their challenges so as to conquer poverty.
In a workshop, on capacity development, organised by TOTAL E&P, and Oil Company, as part of the activities packaged to commemorate of the 2018 Women’s Day for women from its host communities, in Port Harcourt last Thursday, the Deputy Managing Director, Port Harcourt district, Mr Francois Le Cocq., implored participants to devote time to reflect on the progress they have made or have the potential to make individually or collectively in different spheres of life.
He also charged them to participate in the value chains of the formal and informal sectors of the local economics in their respective communities.
Le cocq, who explained that the workshop was organised to build the capacities of women in their host communities towards enhancing their ability to recognise and exploit entrepreneurial opportunities to attain self-sufficiency, economic advancement and ultimate wealth creation for all, also said it is women to harness the various opportunities that would come their way in their march towards economic independence.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s Women’s Day celebration, “press for progress” a guest speaker at the workshop, Mrs Mounfiq Raiyan Abu, emphasised the need for women to strive to survive as well as determine to better their lives as formidable individuals who have the ability to surpass their imagination.
She charged them to go beyond their fears, chart their own course and be self-reliant.
It would be recalled that as a company, TOTAL has shown commitment to the advancement of women and youths through various support systems and programs such as regularly organising capacity building workshops for both the women and youth as well as providing training in skills acquisition with starter- packs to empower them.
The company is said to be building a skills acquisition centre currently in the premises of the state Ministry of Women Affairs, Port Harcourt.
