The Director General, Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency, Dr Uche Mike Chukwuma, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) says, the agency will recruit over 3,000 able persons from the state.
The DG also said the agency is designed to facilitate an efficient homeland security platform called Neighbourhood Watch Safety Corps.
Dr Chukwuma spoke to The Tide, yesterday, during a reception organised in his honour at Alakahia, Akpor, Rivers State after being inaugurated as the DG by Governor Nyesom Wike at the Government House.
He noted that, the employment of over 3,000, Rivers men and women would reduce unemployment and reposition the youths in the society.
The DG insisted that, the agency would ensure professionalism in discharge of its mandates and obligations, as a complete respect for the rule at law.
The corps he said, would mobilise the communities for gainful integration in the security architecture of the state and the country at large.
The neighbourhood watch DG said it will help the Nigerian Police and other sister security agencies to fast track the prevailing security scourge in our land and bridge the gap on intelligence gathering at grassroots level.
Dr Chukwuma insisted that, the agency will be more proactive in its activities, just as he called on those in possession of illegal firearms to hand over their arms at a designated collection point as directed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Idris Abubakar.
The DG also said the corps will promote safe and peaceful co-existence of Nigerians based in Rivers State irrespective of their tribes and religion.
