The Monarch of Ekpeye Kingdom, King Robinson O. Robinson has called on multinational companies operating in Ekpeye land to live up to their corporate social responsibilities to their host communities.
Robinson gave the charge during the signing of a new memorandum of understanding between Total Exploration, Production Nigeria Limited, operators of the TEPN/NNPC joint ventures in Port Harcourt recently.
The Ekpeye monarch commended Total for its transparency in the renewal of the new MOU, process which is billed to guide its operations with host communities for the next five years.
He described the newly signed MOU as a product of mutually acceptable agreement between the corporate partners and urged other multinational companies to borrow a cue from Total.
The Royal father, however, called on the Management of Total to pay its outstanding scholarship fund to students from Ekpeyeland and assured the support of Ekpeye Kingdom towards the smooth implementation of the MOU.
Earlier in his key note address, the Deputy Managing Director, Port Harcourt District of Total, E&P. Mr Francois LeCocq had thanked the MOU partners for the co-operation in working out the newly signed MOU.
He said the basic principles of sustainability in choices of community development projects had not been sufficiently integrated in previous MOU, noting that the newly signed MOU, covers such lapses and grey areas.
He assured that the company would continue to imbibe the principle of transparency and compliance to the current global anti bribery compliance campaign going on in the company.
“We must ensure transparency integrity in project nomination and execution processes, to support implementation processes in this regard, our District Compliance Officer will guide the operations of our compliance regime”, he stated.
