The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Bro. Felix Obuah has assured all aspiring party members for various elective positions in the forthcoming local government elections of a level playing ground.
Obuah said only popular candidates acceptable to the people would emerge.
The PDP chairman made this known when one of the chairmanship hopefuls for Degema Local Government Area, Sir Konfaa Harry visited him to unveil his plans for the exalted position in the LGA.
Obuah acknowledged the massive support the people of Degema have been giving to Governor Nyesom Wike and his government through the leadership provided by the Deputy Governor, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo and the lawmaker representing Degema Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon Farah Dagogo, adding that the LGA has proved itself as a formidable ally.
The party chairman further commended Dagogo for his giant strides in the House of Assembly as well as his untiring efforts towards developing Degema Local Government Area.
Earlier, Hon Farah Dagogo, had said the people of Degema have an effective and working zoning arrangement where the chairman has been ceded to Bakana community.
“Our Chairman Sir, you will observe that all the aspirants clamouring for the chairmanship of Degema are all from Bakana. It is so because we have a zoning arrangement on ground.
“That’s why you don’t see people from Tombia, and other communities contesting. I will urge us all to continue to respect that zoning arrangement,” he explained.
Presenting Konfaa Harry to the PDP chairman, Dagogo said “I have implicit confidence in the ability of Konfaa Harry to lead Degema to its rightful place among the comity of local government areas”.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Hon Damiete Herbert-Miller, said the people of Degema were determined to see the area progress, and assured the governor of Degema people’s unwavering support to his administration.
A woman leader from the LGA, Gift Graham said the women from the LGA had unanimously agreed to support a man for the chairmanship position and provide a woman as running mate.
She restated their support to the governor and the lawmaker representing the area in the state House of Assembly.
Another PDP stalwart, Dr Obed Scan-Whyte said among all the aspirants, Konfaa Harry stood tall and above all, and has the capacity to take the LGA to the next level.
On his part, Konfaa Harry said the visit to the state party chairman was part of his ongoing consultations with all stakeholders.
The aspirant was accompanied on the visit by a large army of party faithful from the LGA.
