Lawyer Wants Firm Managers To Plan For Successors
A Port Harcourt based lawyer and human rights crusader, Mr. Chijioke Agi, has criticised law office managers of not making adequate plans for people, who would succeed them when they can no longer practice.
Agi, who stated this while chatting with newsmen in Port Harcourt last Monday, noted that much time was spent for growing the practice by law office managers but not enough time was given for the consideration of successors.
According to him, “there is a time when me can no longer practice, what happens to our law offices and cherished profession.
He said that building mega chambers would be a better option than the present proliferation of chambers.
Agi said that in advanced countries like the United States of America big law offices were on the scout for intelligent lawyers to recruit into their firm.
He urged seniors to graduate some of their juniors in office into partners in order to keep the legacy.
Agi noted that most law office managers ran a soul proprietorship which died with them.
He said small firms could metamorphose into big ones if the managers nursed the vision.
He also noted many young lawyers were finding it difficult to find a firm when they could begin their practice because of the size of firms.
Agi explained that one could not find a law office in Rivers State that accommodated up to 50 legal practitioners.
He, however, stated that better education and economic improvement within the country, people would be expected to have letter access to legal practitioners.
