Lack Of Competition Causes Athletes’ Poor Performance – Coach

Harcourt, Ogechukwu Arimah has attributed lack of competitions to athletes’ poor performance at national and international competitions.
She stated that her intention was to train up coming taekwondo fighters, saying that currently she is coaching young fighters between ages of eight and ten.
Arimah said this in an exclusive interview with Tidesports on Tuesday at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt after a training session.
“I am doing it on my own because we do not have much fighters in the area of tackwondo in the state”. She said. She explained that because of no competitions after training, the young athletes have not known their competence and were exposed to modern techniques in the Sport.
Arimah equally said that, the best way to showcase talent and knowledge was to impart it on the upcoming athletes, adding that she was one of the best fighters in Tackwondo in the state.
According to her, she did not just went into coaching but Yenabre Aye motivated her to go into coaching.
“It is very challenging to coach children and there are no competitions for them to showcase their talent”, she stated.
The coach went further to say that, since she started coaching, parents have been commending her, as they saw different attitudes in their children positively, mostly on moral aspect.
She noted that the only thing that motivated athletes was competition because it made them to improve and correct their lapses.
“I went into coaching young ones, hoping that someday they will become great fighters”.
