As reactions continue to trail the recent declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term in office, a political pressure group , Niger Delta Youth Coalition (NDYC) says power of incumbency would not be a guarantee for his victory.
NDYC National Coordinator, Prince Emmanuel Ogba, declared this yesterday in PortHarcourt in an interview with newsmen.
Ogba said Buhari’s fate would be determined by Nigerians who suffered untold hardship as a result of the polices of his administration.
According to the youth leader, ” power of incumbency won’t help Buhari in 2019 election. It is the wish of God that will prevail.” Nigerians have suffered inexplicable hardship of his current polices, so they should be allowed to decide whether to continue to suffer or choose a better alternative”
The NDYC leader said Buhari has the constitutional right to seek a second term in office but stressed the need for INEC to be independent in conducting a credible election in the interest of one united Nigeria.
Ogba who commended the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike on his insistence on for transparent PDP primaries in the state, and emphasised that credible general election in the country should begin with transparent primaries by various political parties.
He urged Nigerians not to focus on tribal, religious, or even political party sentiments in choosing who should be the next president but rather their focus should be on capacity of candidates.
He further advised the electorate to go for younger Nigerians within the age of 45 and 60 years instead of voting for older persons.
” We need a far younger person to come on board because the old rulers who are hanging onto power contributed shamefully to the backwardness of the country
” Unfortunately, these aged Nigerians have remained a permanent factor in all the past administrations. Let new Nigeria be led by new crop of younger Nigerians’.
He charged Nigerian electorate not to allow themselves to be influenced by ill-gotten money
