Group Urges Party To Respect Zoning

Ahead of the June 16 Local Government Elections in Rivers State, a Pan Kalabari group has urged the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Asari Toru Local Government Area to respect existing zoning arrangement in the area.
Spokesperson of the group, Arowuya expressed concern over alleged moves by some stakeholders to jettison the zoning arrangement in the local government area.
According to the group’s spokesperson, by the existing zoning arrangement, it was the turn of the Horsfall/West group to produce the chairman of Asari Toru Local Government Area.
“The local government area is shared into four zones: The Abbi/Karibo, Horsfall/West, Ombo/ Benibo/Omoni and the Cenosia. From inception, it started with the Abbi / Karibo group, after then, it went to Ombo/Benibo/Omoni, after them it went to Horsfall / West and then the Cenosia group. Later it went back to Abbi / Karibo group. Ordinarily, it should go back to the Horsfall / West group. The last time it went to Horsfall / West it was West that produced, so now that it is coming to the Horsfall/West zone, it is the Horsfall group that is supposed to produce.
He appealed to the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to prevail on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in the local government area to ensure that there is fairness and equity in Asari-Toru Local Government Area by respecting the zoning arrangement in the area. He recalled the Governor Wike’s position that existing zoning arrangement should be respected and urged all stakeholders to comply with the governor’s directive.
Meanwhile, in a swift reaction, spokesperson for a group in the area, Mr Damiete West has debunked claims of zoning arrangement in the area. West stated that there was no time stakeholders agreed to zone the chairmanship position of Asari Toru Local Government Area and called on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to disregard the claim.
