The chiefs and people of Ogu in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State have been charged to resist further dumping of contaminated fish in the area.
The Director of Administration of the local government council, Mr. Yerima Umejuru gave the charge when executives of the Ogu/Bolo Local Government Council of Chiefs visited the caretaker committee chairman of the area, Alabo Francis Ada Ebenezer in his office in Ogu, recently.
Umejuru said it is unfortunate that some Chiefs aided a company to carry out the act, stressing that discharge of large quantity of rotten fish is toxic and dangerous to health.
According to him, there are vast bush areas within the wharf where such discharge could take place and wondered why they prefer to come to the Ogu axis and dump the contaminated fish.
The council HOD, however said all hands must be on deck to checkmate such harmful activity and appealed to the chiefs concerned to desist forthwith with such acts or be sanctioned.
