Army Kills Four Militia Herdsmen In Benue

The Nigerian Army, yesterday morning, confirmed the killing of four herdsmen during a gun duel with its forces.
The herdsmen, according to the army, were accosted at Teguma Village, in Guma Local Government Area of the state.
The Army Director of Public Relations, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, in a statement, said while four of the herdsmen were neutralized, others escaped following superior gunfire.
The statement reads thus: “Troops of 72 Special Forces Battalion on 16 April 18 on Operation MESA at Yogbo in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State encountered about 20 militia herdsmen at Teguma village while on patrol.
“Four of the militia herdsmen were neutralised during the encounter while others fled following superior gun power.
“Items recovered include four AK-47 rifles, five 7.62mm rounds of ammunition and 28 rounds of 7.62 police special ammunition.”
The statement added:” The Nigerian Army wishes to restate its commitment and determination to rid the country of criminals and enemies of state.”
Meanwhile, the police in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital have arrested one Zara Idris, a female suicide bomber, who was sighted behind Bakassi IDP camp in Maiduguri Metropolis.
According to a statement from the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edet Okon, on sighting the bomber, conventional policemen alongside their EOD counterparts swung into action and cordoned off the area to prevent her from sneaking into the city.
“As a result, the suspect, Zara Idriss was rendered safe, arrested and is now held in custody.
“The Borno State commissioner of police, therefore, advises members of the public to go about their normal activities without fear and to promptly report any suspicious movement around them to the police or other security agencies.
“He also assures the general public of the readiness of the police to combat crime and render Borno state safe for all,” the statement said.
