Woman Flouts Court Order, Burgles House
Mrs Obianuju Onwumere flouted court order by breaking into her ex-husband’s house and absconding with her son.
Obianuju broke into the residence of her former husband, Chukwuma Onwumere, carted away his vital documents, property and also bolted with their son after a court had awarded the child’s custody to the ex-husband.
The President of the Igando Customary Court in Lagos, Mr Akin Akinniyi, on Monday, said Obianuju had committed contempt of court and must be sanctioned.
Akinniyi said: “Obianuju has disobeyed the instructions of this honorable court.
“The court hereby summons Obianuju so that contempt penalty will be pronounced on her,” he ruled.
The court had on November 7, 2017 dissolved the 10-year-old marriage between Chukwuma Onwumere and his wife, Obianuju, for always twisting husband’s testicles when fighting.
Akinniyi, in his judgment said the estranged couple was tired of the marriage as efforts to reconcile them proved abortive.
He said: “Since both parties consented to the dissolution of the marriage, this court has no choice than to dissolve it.
“As regards the custody of children, the boy, aged nine, should remain under the custody of the petitioner, the father, while the girl, seven, should be with her mother.
“Any squabble between both of you from now on shall be treated as criminal and any violation of judgment would be regarded as contempt of this honourable court and will attract imprisonment without an option of fine,” Akinniyi ruled.
Chukwuma had on July 18, 2017 approached the court to terminate his marriage with Obianuju over threat to his life.
He said: “my wife wanted to kill me by always grabbing my testicles anytime we were fighting.
“She always hit me with dangerous weapons over trivial issues. She once cut me with a machete on my head during one of our fights.”
The 49-year-old soil dredger said he left their house to squat with friends because of Obianuju’s troublesome nature.
