Why I Decamped To PDP -Okokoba
Former Chairman of indigenes without border in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Uchenna Okokoba has explained why he left the party and pitched his tent with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Okokoba, who offered the explanation in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt yesterday, said he essentially decamped to the PDP to work for Governor of the State, Chief Nyesom Wike and the party Chairman in the State, Bro Felix Obuah.
He noted with pleasure that Governor Wike’s giant development strides were capable of confounding both his admirers and critics, stressing that he had no choice than to defect to the PDP to contribute to the good works of the governor.
Okokoba, who recently led over 5,000 APC decampees to the PDP said he has at least one year to work for the party and for the governor for people to actually see and evaluate his capacity and ability, as a great mobiliser.
“It is not time for complaint. Nobody should be unnecessarily afraid over what I am doing for PDP today. We are one family and the party must succeed in the State today, in 2019 and beyond. As far as non-indigenes in PDP are concerned in the state, the state Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Emeka Onowu is my leader. We have to work together for the party to succeed.
I will work with him whenever he wants me to work with him. For now, I am working for PDP”, he said.
Okokoba commended the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) for taking steps to conduct local government elections in the state, describing the move as interesting and worthwhile.
“I am happy about it because we are about to have elected Chairmen in the local government councils that would carry everybody along. What RSIEC has done is a right step in the right direction”, he said, adding that the state cannot continue to remain in limbo perpetually over non-election of local government leaders.
With the good works of Governor Wike, he said victory was assured for the PDP in all the 23 local government areas of the state at the polls.
Okokoba also gave kudos to the state House of Assembly for passing the Neighbourhood Safety Corps Bill and the governor for signing the bill into law, saying, the security outfit would make non-indigenes in the state feel more at home.
