UPTH Suspends Cashless Policy
The authorities of University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) have suspended the cashless policy which it said has been a burden to effective healthcare delivery in the facility.
Making the plans public during a chat with newsmen last Monday in Port Harcourt, Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof Henry Ugbomah said the policy is geared at making room for swift response to patients.
Ugbomah also said the recent effort by management to reposition the hospital was in response to complaints by the general public and staff.
To this end, he noted that, “the public will now pay cash for service, while service charges are also being reviewed downwards ahead of a comprehensive pocket friendly, swift response to patient system to be unveiled in a few months time”.
He assured the public and staff that the hospital would be revamped to its former status as a top-notch health facility in the Niger Delta.
Prof Ugbomah also said the new policy directive will ensure that unproductive and tax staffers will not be condoned considering the bad image the hospital has suffered in the recent past.
In his words, “my administrator will be firm on zero-tolerance for corruption, maintain strict enforcement of the civil service extant rules, while hardwork and exemplary conduct will be acknowledged and adequately rewarded accordingly”.
Commending the Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adenole and his counterpart Minister of State, Dr Ehanire Osagie for their commitment to restore the fortunes of the hospital, the UPTH Chief, Medical Director lauded President Buhari for the various reforms in the health sector.
