Stakeholders Want FG To Dualise Rivers Port Gate

Stakeholders and terminal operators at the Rivers Port have appealed to the Federal Government to dualise the access gate to a cargo size to accommodate more cargoes and trucks.
The stakeholders said, the upgrading of the gate to an oversize modeern will enable more cargoes free entry into the port.
A member, Port Terminal Operation Limited (PTOZ), Rivers Port, Mr. Henry Cline, told The Tide during an interview at the Dockyard, Port Harcourt.
He lamented that most cargo ban trucks are denied access to the port due to the small sizes of the gate.
The request to upgrade the gate, he said would attract more cargoes to the port and enhance productivity, among operators.
Henry said, the more cargoes patronize the Rivers Port, the more revenue that would accrue to the Federal Government and operators.
The terminal operator also called on federal government to embark on capital dredging of the Rivers Port Dockyard to encourage more traffic and shipments.
He decried that due to the shallow nature of the dockyard, cargoes were diverted to neighboring African countries for business.
Henry insisted that the dredging of the dockyard would enhance competition, improve shipment and yield more revenue to the government.
