Speaker Receives APC Decampees In ANOLGA
The screening and confirmation of four Commissioner – nominees and caretaker members of Degema Local Government Area were the top proceedings that took place in the State House of Assembly last week.
During the screening exercise, the four Commissioner nominees were asked to give their profile, but the House members were sharply divided over whether to allow all of them take a bow and leave.
However, the Speaker, Rt Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, in line with House proceedings, called on two of the nominees – Hon. Chinyere Igwe, a former House of Representatives member and Hon. Michael West, a former law maker in the State Assembly to take a bow and leave.
Shortly after Igwe and West left, the Speaker urged the other two nominees, Dr Nancy Nwankwo and Dr Rison Onyia, to introduce themselves and also take a bow and leave. The Speaker’s decision stands from various submissions made by members such as Hon. Nathaniel Uwaji, Enemi George Alabo on the need to allow them go based on recognition and contributions in the past to the state.
The House called on the Caretaker member nominees for Degema local government area to introduce themselves by giving their profiles. After the nominees concluded with their profiles, members representing Degema State Constituency, Dr Farah Dagogo rose and spoke in their defence.
The lawmaker submitted that most of CTC member nominees were tested and experienced hands, which character he can vouch for. Dr Dagogo pleaded on the House to allow them take a bow and leave.
But before the nominees took their leave, Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Ibani tasked them on the need to key into the vision of the Nyesom Wike-led administration. Ibani had earlier called on the commissioner nominees, especially those who had served as legislators to be exemplary and hardworking.
Within the week, the Speaker took a facility tour of his Constituency projects in Andoni State Constituency. The projects were those of 2017 and are near completion.
Among projects inspected is the Community Secondary School Agwutobolo which has classrooms and a laboratory block.
Last Thursday, the Speaker was among top Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) bigwigs in Andoni Local Government Area who received decampees from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area.
Other PDP bigwigs who were at the occasion were member representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency, Hon. Abiante Awajinombek, President General of the Grassroot Development Initiative (GDI), Bright Amaewhule and Secretary, Samuel Nwanosike.
In his remarks, the Speaker commended all the decampees for taking the step in joining the ruling party, saying it was a step in the right direction.
