The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed displeasure over the recent assault allegedly meted on the Archbishop of Owerri Catholic Province, Most Rev. Anthony Obinna, by members of All Progressives Congress (APC) and loyalists of Owelle Rochas Okorocha at a burial ceremony of a mother of one of the APC’s leaders in Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.
The Party Chairman in the state, Barr. Charles Ezekwem, stated this at a press briefing at the party’s secretariat in Owerri.
He condemned the act which occured in the church, describing it as an abomination that was never experienced in the history of governance in the state before now, adding that Imo people must be awake to the corrupt practices of the governor and the irresponsible behavior of the government officials and should do the needful in 2019 with the power of their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC).
Ezekwem maintained that the newly introduced reforms in PDP under the leadership of its National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, would stop impunity and imposition of candidates and reposition it for the 2019 general elections.
He assured that the reforms would enthrone Unity, Stability, progress, egalitarianism and non-discrimination among party faithful in the Ward, local government, state and national levels where candidates would only emerge through free and fair conduct of primaries for the 2019 general elections.
The Okigwe-born politician promised to keep laudable legacies that posterity would continue to applaud, pointing out that there was nothing that could make him indulge in certain acts that would breed acrimony within the party and impede its success.
He dismissed insinuations that Imo PDP was owned by just one person, emphasising that the party was a broad-based one with membership drawn from various religious, linguistic and ethnic divides in Nigeria.
