RSG Hosts Mini State Sports Fiesta, August
Rivers State Government has expressed its preparedness to organize “Rivers State Sports Festival” in August this year, saying that it will be an avenue to discover talents that can represent the State in national and international competitions.
Commissioner for Sports in the State, Hon. Boma Iyaye disclosed this while speaking to journalists in his office, yesterday, in Port Harcourt.
The festival will strengthen the light sports development and give emerging talents the platform to perform and be harnessed for maximum opportunity.
He further revealed that arrangements are on top gear to host the first Mini Championship that would feature swimming and boxing only.
Speaking on his performance as a three-time Sports Commissioner in the state, Hon Iyaye believed that his records speaks for him.
According to him, his re-appointment as Commissioner for Sports, three times was based on his achievements and commitment to sports development in and outside the State.
“First of all I give the credit to Governor Nyesom Wike, because he provided the required funds for sporting competitions.
Apart from that my achievements and wealth of experience speak for me and I think I have shown enough commitment to my duties “ said Hon. Iyaye.
The Commissioner equally explained that the most successful African Wrestling Championship (AWC) recently among other events, have effectively, debunked insinuations that the State was not safe in terms of security.
He noted that the AWC has made wrestling a popular sport in the state and many young men and women are now attracted to sports.
