Principal Lauds RSG On Sports Promotion

The Rivers State Government has been commended for its doggedness, zero tolerance and promotion of sports in the state.
The commendation was made by the Principal of Government Secondary School, Eneka Lady Emilia L. Amadi during the 12th annual inter-house sports competition of the Universal Basic Education section last weekend.
Lady Amadi thanked the state governor for all his encouragement in sports development and awareness in the state.
The principal stated that sports offers the youths the opportunity to enhance their physical and social skills. It also offers them change from monotony of their daily life and keeps them off the streets.
According to her, sports enhances the children’s mental and physical growth and plays a pivotal role in the make-up of a young athlete as he learns values like discipline, responsibility, self-confidence and accountability.
She further stated that sports helps in character building and provides young athletes energy and strength.
She therefore, urged parents and guardians to always encourage their children in active sports participation in schools as it develops their psycho-motor domain.
The principal explained that the school which was established in 1977 has a vision to inculcate into the students moral values, skills, creativity, patriotism and passion for hardwork geared towards sustainability of human development through capacity building.
She also thanked the executive chairman of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Fyne-face Akah for his meritorious award as the best performing (UBEC) chairman South-South zone of the year.
The sports which was chaired by Chief Bob-Vic Ozogbuda, had six houses that participated this year. Yellow House took first position with 610 points, seconded by Orange House with 587 points and Red House took third position with 574 points.
There were cultural, dramatic displays.
