Monarch Hails IGP’s Arms Order
The Amanyanabo of Ogu Kingdom, King Nicholas Dickson Ibiebele Nimenibo, has described the recent order by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris on the mop-up of arms and ammunition in the society as a right step in the right direction and timely.
King Nimenibo made the assertion when the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in-charge of Ogu Police Division, CSP Idris Danladi Abdullahi visited him in his palace at Ogu in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area.
According to the Ogu monarch, the order for people to surrender all illegal arms and ammunition in their possession would help curb crime and criminality and pave way for a better society, pointing out that proliferation of arms is a serious threat to the people and the society at large.
The traditional ruler said as custodians of the people’s culture, tradition and peaceful co-existence, it behoved monarch to support the government to ensure that peace, unity and security of lives and properties prevailed in their domains.
According to him as a member of the Niger Delta Traditional Rulers Council, he had been preaching against illegal arms and ammunition and promised to pass a town-crier to inform the people that anyone in possession illegal arms and ammunition to surrender them or face the full wrath of the government.
The paramount ruler also frowned at the level of damage done on the transformer, cables and electric poles in Ogu which had plunged the entire community into total darkness, and called on the security agents to redouble their efforts.
Earlier, the DPO in-charge of Ogu Police Division, CSP Idris Danladi Abdullahi said they were in the monarch palace to convey a message from the AIG on the surrender of illegal arms and ammunitions and the mop-up exercise that would follow later by a taskforce and solicited for his support.
Also speaking, the Okrika, Ogu/Bolo Area Commander of Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Chief Emmanuel Abbey Okekeye thanked the monarch for his commitment in ensuring a hitchfrel exercise and assured of their assistance for a better society.
