Inter House Sports, Veritable Tool To Curb Vices – Principal
Sports have been described as a veritable tool aimed at curbing social vices, criminalities in the society, even as it fishes out hidden talents amongst youths.
Sports are also an essential activity that need to be embraced by all a sundry in the society.
Principal, Olobo Premier College, Choba, Port Harcourt, Mesagan A. Olarewaju stated this yesterday during the schools sixth Annual Inter House Sports competition held in the school field along the East/West Road, Near University of Port Harcourt.
Mrs Olarewaju, who appeals to parents to encourage their children and wards to engage in sporting activities, said sports enhance skills and make both old and young to be physically fit and healthy.
The Principal who told parents and guardians that everything in school should not be all academics, urged students not to shy away from sports, but partake in various sporting activities in order to excel in life.
She further advised parents and the young to have a flair for one sporting activity or the other to keep fit even as sports unite people from different countries and races.
She noted that a student who is not academically sound can discover where he or she can excel in life.
On the importance of inter house sports competition among secondary schools, Olarewaju said such events promote students’ interest in sporting activities and fish out talents.
According to her, so many talents have been discovered through inter house sports competitions across the country.
The Principal, who gave kudos to the likes of Liberian President, George Weah and other prominent men and women for indulging in sports said, sports train the minds of the youths positively.
She also appealed to Rivers State Government, stakeholders and philanthropists to assist the college in procuring sporting equipments in order to add more value to the students.
Highlight of the events was keen competitions amongst five houses in various sporting activities organised by the college.
