A Non-Governmental Organisations the United Brothers’ of Opobo Kingdom (UBOK) has blamed voter apathy and the failure to vote the right candidates during elections on some leaders of the Niger Delta region.
In a recent statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Hon. Mike Fubara, Secretary, Mr Nna Cookey and Public Relations Officer, Mr Ndubuisi Uranta, UBOK warned that if the electorate continue to abstain from casting their votes during elections, and for the right candidates, poor leadership would persist.
“If you want your vote to count (and) you want the right candidates to lead you, you must come out en-masse and cast your votes come 2019”, the group stated adding: “gone were the days when politicians and their allies wrote results, and snatched ballot boxes, but now electronic voting, which implies the vote as an individual will count”.
The group warned the electorate against voting for people based on financial inducement, pointing out that, “if you vote for this set of candidates, bear in your minds that you are indirectly mortgaging the future of your children and generations yet unborn over few thousands.”
It however lauded the leadership of Governor Nyesom Wike over numerous people-oriented development projects across Rivers State.
