Forum Wants Monarchs To Enforce Traditional Laws
In a bid to sustain the relative peace in Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, a Port Harcourt – based ONELGA Youth Forum (PHBOYF) has called on the traditional rulers to enforce traditional laws and customs.
The group stated that equal distribution of the oil proceeds in the area would go a long way to curb restiveness, and noted that enlightenment and sensitisation programme would assist to eradicate crime.
The body which made these assertions in an address it presented when it paid courtesy visit to the Oba of Ogbaland, His Eminenee Chukwumela Nnam Obi, was made available to The Tide, at the weekend.
The address which was jointly signed by its Coordinator, Bro. Felix U. Ogbu , Secretary, Comrade Ochu Chijioke and Public Relations Officer, Comrade Onjeije H. Emeka, noted that arrangements were on top gear to organise a peace talk in all the communities and wards to ensure that there is peace and harmony in the area.
“Our traditional laws and customs that were practised, which checkmated crime, evil doing and criminality should be enforced on defaulters without mercy and favour.
We are calling for unity in all the traditional institutions in ONELGA to foster a common goal to achieve the desired peace in the land,” it said.
In the same vein, the youth forum commended the Chairman of ONELGA Security Planning Anti-Crime Control (OSPAC) overits timeless effort and support for peace in ONELGA.
The youth forum further appealed to OSPAC not to politicise the security frame- work of the Organisation.
“We, the Port Harcourt Based ONELGA Youth Forum are appealing to OSPAC not to politicise or compromise. Whosoever is found guilty should be brought to book irrespective of the personality involved,” they stated.
The address equally explained that the most important thing was to maintain the peace and they were prepared to also organise musical shows and football competitions in the area.
