Education Scribe Hails School On Performance In Sports

The Education Secretary in-charge of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Dr Emmanuel Anga has commended the Headmistress of State School Ikpoa-Ama, Mrs Florence Rufus Oba and the pupils for their brilliant performance in academics and sports.
Dr Anga, who was Special Guest of Honour at the 2nd Inter-House Sports competition of the school held on Friday hailed the mistress for her exceptional interest in organizing sports competition and enjoined others in the area to borrow a leaf, as sports and education are veritable tools of development.
According to him, Sports help the body to be physically and mentally alert, and called on parents to encourage their children and wards to develop interest in sports.
He enjoined the pupils to shun all vices inimical to their well-being as future leaders and urged parents to show more interest in their children’s sports activities.
Earlier, in her address, the Headmistress of the school, Mrs Florence Rufus Oba said the importance of sports cannot be over-emphasised as it had become an important aspect of socio-economic development of a country.
Mrs Rufus Oba noted that active participation in sports improves the health status of every human and reduced medical expenses, adding that it also inculcate the spirit of discipline in children as leaders of tomorrow, enhance social cohesion, generates employment among others, and opined that any expenditure on sports development in an investment in human capacity development should have future benefits.
She however appealed to the athletes officials to go by the rules and winners to be magnanimous in victory and losers to improve next time.
At the end of the competition, Ikpo-Ama House with 74 points emerged tops, followed by Church House with 64 points while the third position was occupied by Loko House with 58 points and Ogu House with 44 points comes rear.
Highlights of the day includes Headmistress race, parents race, non-academic staff race while the Chairman of the occasion, Dr Emmanuel Anga presented a special token to the Headmistress of the school for her doggedness in sports promotion.
