Drivers, Others Petition CP Over Threat To Life, Cultism
The Rivers Drivers’ Transport Co-operative Union, Obio/Akpor Service Providers Co-operative Investment Society and Association of Keke Operators in Port Harcourt and its environs have petitioned the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Zaki Ahmed over threat to lives, grievous bodily harm, forgery, fraud, cultism and conduct likely to cause the breach of public peace against some persons in the state.
The two-page petition signed by General Secretary of Rivers Drivers Transport Co-operative Union, Mr Chukwudi Obulor stated that their officers who were on their duty posts issuing daily dues recepts were attacked and grievous bodily harm inflicted on them and the receipts including cash forcefully confiscated from them by some miscreants suspected to be cultists.
The petition further stated that one of the union workers, Kenneth Itodo was attacked at his duty post at Chinda junction by Ada-George road to an extent that he fainted and rushed for medical attention while the sum of N15,000.00 collected on daily dues receipts belonging to the union amounting to N80,000 was seized and destroyed by the hoodlums.
According to the statement, one Michael Adolphus, a member of Obio/Akpor Service Providers Co-operative Investment and Credit Society (OSERP) was beaten-up, and in the process, N10,000 he realized from dues payment belonging to the society was snatched including all the working materials valued N15,000 were destroyed.
It also stated that Nekabari Nwiwaadu, the president OSERP was attacked along Ada-George road on his way to report the dastard act on his staff at Rukpakani Police Station as he was chased with machetes and sticks by the miscreants but managed to escape and ran into the police station, while the hoodlums warned him not to operate at Gateway and Rumuolumeni axis if he did not want to be killed.
They said he had to join the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), before he could operate.
The petition alleged that the brand office of the union at Elelenwo/Akpajo was attacked, workers confronted, beaten-up and robbed while an Infinix Hotnote 4, valued N38,000 was taken away.
