Boko Haram Kills Six Soldiers, Four Policemen In Borno …As Taraba Declares Curfew Over 29 Deaths In Fresh Attacks

The Police in Borno State yesterday confirmed that four policemen and six soldiers were killed in the Boko Haram attack in Rann community of Kala Balge Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner, Mr Damian Chukwu, disclosed this while fielding questions at a monthly police meeting in Maiduguri.
“In the recent attack in Kala Balge Local Government Area, four mobile policemen and six soldiers were killed.
“The police are part of the counter-insurgency campaign to restore peace and stability, and were deployed to various locations,” Chukwu said.
He also disclosed that over 500 men had been deployed to Operation Lafiya Dole, and reiterated the commitment of the command to the successful implementation of the counter-insurgency campaign.
He said it was the direct order of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, in view of the escalation of armed communal conflict across the country.
He said any person found with such arms, “will be dealt with in with laws of the land”.
“We must brace up to our responsibilities, so that it does happen again. That was how 276 Chibok schoolgirls were abducted by in April 14, 2014.
“The members of the public are to cooperate with police ensure that the directive of IG is complied with without rancour,” he said.
Our correspondent reports that the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) had said that three aid workers were killed and three others sustained injuries while a nurse was declared missing during the terrorists’ attack in Rann on March 1.
The UN agency said the aid workers were providing humanitarian services to over 50,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who fled their homes due to the ongoing conflict in the region.
Meanwhile, curfew has been declared in parts of Taraba State where fresh violence broke out between Mambilla militia and Fulani youth.
The state government declared the curfew in Mayo Ndaga in Sardauna Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that during the a security meeting, a riot act was read with a warning that security personnel sent to all parts of Mambilla were combat ready and would restore peace and order while troublemakers would be dealt with.
In Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, Governor Darius Ishaku also chaired a security meeting with Police Commissioner, Mr David Akinremi, Director of Department of State Security Services and the heads of all security agencies in the state.
The Senior Special Assistant on Media Affairs to Ishaku, Mr Bala Dan Abu, confirmed the meeting.
However, there was no statement issued after the meeting.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Taraba State Police Command, ASP David Misal, did not answer calls made to his phone by our reporter but replied a text message, saying “there is calm in the area now.”
