Youth Forum Carpets FG Over Rivers Dev
Rising from a one-day stakeholders’ conference in Port Harcourt, last weekend, some youth groups and ex-agitators have poured flaks on the Federal Government for not siting any laudable project in Rivers State since 2015.
Their view was made public in a paper delivered by the Special Assistant to Bayelsa State Governor and President, Niger Delta Non-Violent Movement, Kennedy West.
West while berating the President MuhammaduBuhari-led Federal Government for its anti-Niger Delta policies opined that Rivers State, despite being the Treasure Base of the nation has not gotten any tangible project.
The youth leader, who spoke on “Implications for Sustainable Youth Development: Building and Sustaining Peace”, said many projects that should come to the state have been taken away because the government does not belong to the ruling party at the centre.
In the words of West, “The harsh policies and programmes of the government at the centre have impoverished our people”.
He decried the rising environmental and security challenges in the country, and called on youth to rise to the occasion by actively participating in the political and economic activities in order to provide good leadership.
The special assistant to the Bayelsa State Government on Niger Delta youth observed that Rivers State was greatly undermined in the present scheme of things, against natural justice.
West, however, commended the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for being resolute, focused and hardworking, calling on him not to relent in his good works in transforming the state.
On his part, ex-Niger Delta agitator and Chairman of the forum, Prince Amaibi said the time has come for the youth to join hands in moving Rivers State forward.
Amaibi pledged the support of the youth to the Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike in moving Rivers State forward, noting that, “his achievements so far are extraordinary, and he has given Rivers people a new lease of life”.
