The President, Rivers Drivers Transport Corporation Union, Comrade Binoye Sunday has again condemned the incessant assault, harassment and illegal arrest of his members by the Police and hoodlums along Eliparanwo axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Sunday, while making the condemnation in a chat with our correspondent in his office in Port Harcourt said members of his union were dispossessed of their belongings, beaten, and assaulted on daily basis for no just cause and made to part with huge amount of money as bail by the police.
He alleged that anti-cultism unit of Eliparanwo Police Division extorts money from people as well as inflict pains on law- abiding citizens of the state.
He said if the situation was not checked, it could puncture the peace of the area.
The union boss disclosed that his members arrested by the police paid N30,000 and above for their bail over trump-up charges in connivance with the hoodlums operating in the area. He added that on February 5, 2018, one of his members escaped being lynched by the boys.
Sunday stated that several cases of assault reported to the Police station were not given attention.
He therefore called on the Inspector General of Police, the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike and the Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed to look into their plight as even the station is not helping matters nor representing the true position of the police but rather dragging the name of the Anti-kidnapping unit in the mud by aiding and abetting crime in that area.
