A Port Harcourt based businessman, Deele Ledum has attributed the incessant cases of rape and defilement of girls under 13 years to obscene dressing and unwarranted proximity to the opposite sex by young girls.
Mr Deele, who stated this while speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt at the weekend, explained that young girls who dressed in provocative ways were the reason for the spate of sexual abuses in the state.
He warned parents to closely monitor their young daughters and noted that unwarranted closeness to the opposite sex made some undisciplined men to take liberty for licence .
Deele also said that if parents could monitor the clothes their young daughters put on as well as how closely they relate with the opposite sex, some of the abuses would be nipped in the bud.
He said that girls who wear skimpy clothes are most likely to be raped or sexually assaulted and blamed the police and parents for not doing enough in the prosecution of offenders to act as deterrent to others.
According to him, “parents are shy to bring offenders to book. This is because some feel that bringing offenders to book will smear the image of their daughter”.
Deele also told parents to warn their daughters on the dangers of early sexual intercourse.
