Youth Plan Environmental, Security Summit In Rivers

The Rivers State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has concluded plans to organise its first Environmental and Security Summit in the 23 local government areas of the state.
Chairman of NYCN in Rivers State, Amb Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sokubo, who disclosed this in a press statement made available to The Tide, said the summit was targeted at sensitising the public, especially people at the grassroots on the dangers of insecurity and environmental pollution.
He said the initiative was part of programmes to celebrate 2017 edition of the International Youth Day in Rivers State in line with the mandate of the United Nations.
Sukubo, who is also the chairman of all chairmen of the NYCN in the country, called on youth to participate actively in the line up of events billed to celebrate the International Youth Day.
He described youth as critical to the development of any society, and assured that capacity building and empowerment will take the lead in his development programme.
Earlier, the NYCN executive had attended a Jumat service at the Port Harcourt Central Mosque, and a thanksgiving/ rededication service at the Omega Power Ministries (OPM) in Port Harcourt.
Preaching at the church service, the General Overseer of OPM, Apostle Gift Chibuzor, emphasised the need for youth to turn a new leaf and denounce anti-social behaviours, which lead to cultism and other criminal acts capable of ruining their future.
The cleric said the key objective of OPM was humanitarian evangelism, centred on winning souls for Christ, and rehabilitating repentant youth.
He urged the NYCN to be focused in its vision and ensure that youth in Rivers State are given a sense of direction.
