Determined to ensure good conduct of members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani says the Assembly will in the next plenary session restructure its committee on Ethics and privileges.
Ibani, who announced this at last Tuesday Plenary in Port Harcourt, warned that the House will no longer condone indiscipline and unguarded utterances capable of breaking the existing peace and concord in the House.
“I want to announce to you that the House Committee on Ethics and privileges will be restructured in the next plenary session of the House.
The essence is to ensure that no member of this Assembly involves in any act that will bring disrepute or act that will cause crisis in the House.
The Committee will be restructured to checkmate every members of the House to ensure good conduct  and behavior among members of the House”, Ibani hinted.
Ibani, who recalled what led to the closure of the Assembly Complex during the period of the Assembly in the state, said he will not allow any member to cause crisis in the Assembly or in the state in the name of party politics.
He said the Committee, when restructured, will look into the comments made by an unnamed member and recommend it to the House for necessary action.
It would be recalled that, the lawmaker representing Ikwerre Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly Hon Azubuike Nwanjoku had some time last month, alleged that the Assembly sits only on the directive of the state Governor Chief Nyesom Wike.
Nwanjoku, a member of All Progressives Congress (APC) had also accused the Assembly leadership of lacking the will to direct the House to perform its statutory function as legislative arm of Government established to make laws and checkmate the activities of the executive in the state.
