RSG Reads Riot Act To Erring Tombia Chiefs
The Rivers State Government says it will deal decisively with any chief or opinion leader in Tombia community in Degema Local Government Area, who is found arming youth to cause mayhem in the area.
Special Adviser to the State Governor on Conflict Resolution, Chief Abelekum Okori handed down the warning during a peace meeting with some chiefs of the community in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
The warning was against the background of allegations during the meeting that some chiefs were buying arms for youth with a view to helping them emerge as Amanyanabo of the community.
Okori said that the state government will not fold its arms and watch some chiefs perpetrate mayhem in the community.
He said that the governor was desirous of ensuring peace in Tombia with a view to fulfilling his campaign promises to the people.
The special adviser also called for forgiveness, adding that the sins of the past must be forgotten by all.
Also speaking, Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Degema Local Government Area, Hon. Ombo Eenibo said that Governor Nyesom Wike was desirous of ensuring peace in Tombia and other communities in the area.
Benibo also urged them to caution their youth against involvement in illegal activities such as, illegal oil bunkering, stressing that the situation was affecting the security of the entire Degema Local Government Area.
In his speech, Chairman, Tombia Council of Chiefs, Dr. Lucas Aluye Benibo alleged that the selection exercise for the Amayanabo of the community was manipulated, and therefore, unacceptable.
