‘Renewable Energy, Key To Power Sector Revolution’

An expert in the power sector, Mr Godpower Ezuzu has stated that the prospect of breakthrough in the  power sector depends on renewable energy.
Ezuzu who is the CEO of Enerplaz  Limited, disclosed this while making a presentation at workshop on Nigerian content, organized by the Port Harcourt branch of the Nigeria society of  (NSE) in collaboration with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) in Port Harcourt last week.
He said the concentration of Federal Government in Generating power through hydro and thermal plants lead to colossal wastages of resources, while the power generated are not efficient for domestic consumption.
To achieve better service delivery in the power sector he said Nigeria should diversify from its monolithic economy where over 70% of forex is derived from oil and  gas.
Apart from obvious wastage of economic resources, he pointed out that there are negative impacts of gas on human life and the natural environment.
Alternatively, he said that Nigeria should embrace the global trend toward renewable energy which is capable of meeting 50% of energy requirement without adding to global emission.
He said the sources of renewable energy are natural and replenish able  and have the capacity to create wealth, and employment conserve natural resources, improve environment and health and can be quickly implemented”.
