Monarch Urges Youth To Shun Crime
Youths in Rivers State have been urged to shun all forms of crime but should learn how to pursue their causes through legal and legitimate means.
HRH (Dr) Israel U. Otuo (IX) gave the charge during the 16th anniversary of his Supreme Court victory recently at Unyeada in Andoni Local Government Area.
He reasoned that violence was a crude method of addressing issues, while dialogue remains the best option to settle differences.
King Otuo also discouraged acts of bias and anti-progressive thoughts among his people, and added that such could not bring about development.
He stressed the need to avoid crime and disorderliness by the youths pointing out that as leaders of tomorrow, they needed humility to move forward in life.
Community sources told The Tide that the legal battle that saw the emergence of King Otuo was upto three decades.
Also speaking, the Vice Chairman, Unyeada Divisional Council of Chiefs and Traditional Rulers (UDCCTR), High Chief Erasmus Mbira (JP), appealed to the state government on the need to upgrade their chieftaincy stool to a first class status.
He recalled that the stool was among the few recognized by the colonial masters, and stated that others had attained first class status apart from the Unyeada people.
The UDCCTR’s scribe, Chief Timothy Needeen (JP), praised the leadership style of King Otuo, and pointed out that he led without sentiment.
Using himself as a case study, he said that he was from the linage that engaged their king in a long legal battle, and disclosed that he had received equal treatment with counterpart in the kingdom.
The approval of Unyeada Divisional Police Station was counted among the several achievements of the monarch.
