MCHW: RSG To Immunise 2million Children

Rivers State government says the on-going Maternal and Child Health Week is targeted at two million under five children.
Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Agriye Harry who disclosed this in an interview with The Tide during the flag off of the programme at the Ozuoba Primary Health Centre, said that thousands of nursing mothers and pregnant women would also be affected by the programme.
Dr. Harry explained that, the programme would cover all aspects of healthcare and hygiene including hand washing, nutrition, family planning and nutrition diet correction for malnourished children.
He said that the programme would enable the government to know the HIV status of both children and their mothers as well as that of the pregnant women.
Also speaking, Medical Officer,  Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Dr. Amadi Stanely said that 2,500 children from Ozuoba would benefit from the programme.
Dr. Stanley said that the programme would help to check the high rate of maternal and child mortality within Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
He noted that through this programme at Ozuoba, other communities in the Local Government would be encouraged to participate fully in the exercise.
On his part, Caretaker Committee Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Innocent Padi Wali commended Governor Wike and the Rivers State Government for flagging off the programme in the area.
Hon. Wali said the council would collaborate with the Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board to ensure that every community in the Local Government benefits from the programme.
