IGP Harps On Effective Policing Of African Continent

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has called for closer cooperation between the Nigeria Police and other African countries’ police to ensure effective policing of the sub-region.
According to a statement by the Force Spokesman, CSP Jimoh Moshood, in Abuja, last Saturday, Idris made the pledge when he visited the head of Moroccan Police in Rabat, Morocco.
He explained that public involvement in security was crucial for the curtailment of criminal activities.
The I-G added that the present Nigeria Police leadership was prepared to work with any country’s police towards ensuring protection of lives and property of citizens.
“We want to see a crime-free society such that law abiding citizens can always go to bed with their two eyes closed,’’ he said.
In a related development, Idris has pledged commitment to the welfare of personnel for enhanced productivity.
He made the pledge when he visited the Royal Police Academy in Kenitra, Morocco.
Idris said that improvement in the welfare of the policemen was critical to boost the morale of policemen.
“Increase in the welfare of staff will boost their morale while training, through capacity building, will enhance their performance,” he said.
He restated the commitment of the force toward tackling the various security challenges in the country.
“The Police have been doing their best in tackling the security challenges and will continue to do more,’’ he said.
The police chief promised to continue to place high premium on training and retraining of policemen for enhanced performance.
Idris explained that training and retraining of personnel was a necessary capacity technique for development.
Idris and his team were later taking round by the Director of the Academy, Mohssine  Habraji on inspection tour of the facilities, which include: forensic software, finger print laboratory, crime scene and the mounted police troop
