High Handedness: Union Demands DFA’s Redeployment
The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation Civil Service Technical and Recreational Service Employees (AUPCTRE), Rivers State Sports Council branch, has called for the redeployment of the Director of Finance and Accounts (DFA), Mr. Andrew Ogiri from the council for high handedness.
This was contained in a petition addressed to the Accountant-General of the State, Mr. Dagogo Abere, a copy of which was made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt. The petition signed by the branch Chairman of the union, Harry Opakiriba said that the DFA has no respect for constituted authority in the council, stressing that he does not show respect to the director of sports (DS) and other superior officers in the council.
According to the petition, the attitude of the DFA to the DS is a display of uncontrollable belligerence as he refuses to take official directives from him, especially in the payment of officers’ entitlements which is tantamount to insurbordination”.
It also stated that, the union had written several letters to the Office of the Accountant-General for his redeployment.
When contacted, the Director of Finance and Account, Andrew Ogiri said that he was not a member of the union called AUPCTRE, stressing that they do not have any power to seek for his redeployment. He pledged to continue to work with the commissioner for sports, director of sports and the entire staff including athletes in the council to ensure harmoney.
