Group Wants RSG To Support Peace Building Initiative
A Port Harcourt-based Non-Governmental Group, Advocacy for Peace, Good Governance and Social Justice has called on the Rivers State Government to support its peace building efforts in order to end the youth restiveness in rural communities in the state.
The Secretary of the group, Mr Josiah Phanuel Ebenezer, who stated this while speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt last Monday, expressed regrets that despite the efforts of government in the area of security, hoodlums have continued to ravage rural communities making life difficult for the inhabitants.
Mr Ebenezer also expressed regrets that youths especially in the rural communities were no longer ready to go to school or learn some vocations but were disposed to acquire wealth either by hook or crook.
He said the problem of cultism, armed robbery and kidnapping had eveloped the rural communities in the state.
He pointed out that if nothing was done urgently, those in the rural communities might find it difficult to produce ample educated persons.
Mr Ebenezer, who is a lawyer, explained that peace building was key to all around development of the state.
He urged government to support its campaign for peace in both rural and urban communities.
He remarked that they had made huge campaigns in the rural areas of the state.
