Cop Flays Police Involvement In Crimes
A top police officer in Rivers State has said that police officers involvement in crime hinders investigation of reported crimes.
The top Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) personnel who spoke with The Tide under condition of anomimity expressed regret that the police who could have been crime fighters were involved in it.
He hinted that a particular stolen car was traced to a top police officer in the state, thereby jeopardizing the process.
The SARS operative was of the view that those who had made up their minds to fight crime should not be involved in it.
According to him, crime fighting needs a high level of uprightness before one could succeed in the battle.
Furthermore, he explained that any military personnel that was involved in crime was a weakling and a lazy officer.
He pointed out that there were several lawful means to make money in the military than to employ a crude and illegal method.
The top SARS man maintained that the police were doing a lot in crime fighting in the state, hence the peace recorded at some quarters,
He explained that without the involvement of the police and other law enforcement agents in crime fighting, hoodlums would have taken over the country before now.
On how to improve the security of lives and property in the country, he said that the welfare of the officers and men must top government agenda.
To buttress his argument, he stressed that crime fighters were interested in their reward after a successful battle.
Earlier, he had called on officers and men at various level to desist forth-with from crime involvement, as no soldier that was enlisted in the Army was interested in the affairs of civilians.
