The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested three suspects who allegedly specialised in stealing cars within Trans-Amadi areas of Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The three suspects arrested by the police are Ignatius Opara 26, Aniebet Daniet 19 and Lawson Basoene 18.
In a released press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP  Nnamdi Omoni said men of the Azikiwe Police Station on stop and search routine check at the Eagle Island Sandfill area intercepted a Toyota Avalon salon car with Reg. No. WER 767 CN with three occupants, last Friday.
According to him, the police team noticed a difference between the plate number and the number on the wind screen, which he said, triggered their suspicion on the occupants of the car.
He disclosed that when the car was searched, one locally made pistol with two 7-62mm live ammunition were recovered hidden under the driver’s seat.
The police spokesman averred that further probe on the suspects revealed that they had stolen the car from where it was parked at Amadi-Ama axis.
He further disclosed that the suspects were making useful statements that would lead to the recovery of other cars allegedly robbed by their gang and added that efforts are on to arrest the fleeing members of the criminal gang.
